Katrina Anger Inspires New Music

Hurricane Katrina will inspire many things. Hope, anger, faith and even music. Many artist are creating new music to express their opinions on the Katrina recovery effort. While Michael Jackson runs around signing up any any artist that will sing with him on a new relief track others have just taken control and produced new tunes and put them out on the web as free downloads to get them in the hands of listeners.

Last night I got sent a new song by rapper/actor Mos Def called "Katrina Klap". This track expresses the rage most of us have over the treatment and the so called recovery effort in New Orleans. He tears at Bush and even snipes at Bono. My favorite of the most recent Katrina songs.

New York abstract TV On The Radio released a song called "Dry Drunk Emperor". This song calls out Bush and the government for the slow response and how seemignly racist the wholel recovery effort has been. Here is the chorus:

gold cross jock skull and bones

standing naked for a while!

and bring all the thieves to trial.

and here is my favorite part the last verse:

shut down this hypocrisy.

Prince has also done a 3 new songs all benefitting Katrina. I have'nt heard them but they are on sale on iTunes and his own website.

Daily more artists will write songs and over the next year I'm sure we'll see many new songs about this disaster. Considering WalMart and the private sector did a better job of helping out the victims of Katrina then the Government it comes as no surprise that some real artists are using their fame and power to do some good.
